Addressing Europe’s Skills Shortage Through Mobility

International mobility plays a crucial role in this effort. It enhances key competencies such as adaptability, creativity, teamwork, and language proficiency ; qualities that are essential in a rapidly evolving labor market. While higher education students have long benefited from the Erasmus+ program – engineering students in France are even required to complete at least three months abroad – apprentices remain largely excluded. This needs to change.

At the European level, the Council and the European Commission have set a target: by 2030, 12% of apprentices should have completed an international mobility experience. In France, President Macron has raised this ambition to 15%.

Founded in 2020 by France’s leading apprenticeship networks, Euro App Mobility (EAM) supports training centers and businesses in achieving these objectives. It works to align legislation at the European level and advocates for a unified status for mobile apprentices. To engage employers more effectively, EAM established the Employers’ Club for a European Apprenticeship Area in September 2024, a dedicated space for dialogue and collaboration.

A Club Rooted in Local Networks and Expert Leadership

The Employers’ Club brings together a diverse range of companies, including many small, locally based structures linked to apprenticeship training centers. This ensures that mobility solutions are adapted to the realities of businesses of all sizes and aligned with regional employment needs.

To provide strategic direction and foster impactful dialogue, the club is led by a recognized expert in social dialogue and human resources management. Under this leadership, the club serves as a catalyst for change, helping businesses integrate international mobility into their apprenticeship strategies effectively.

Why an Employers’ Club?

The Employers’ Club is designed to:

  • Recognize the value of international mobility in apprenticeships: Mobility develops essential skills that strengthen Europe’s workforce and drive business success.
  • Enhance business competitiveness and corporate social responsibility (CSR): Companies can leverage apprentice mobility to improve their economic and social impact.
  • Make businesses more attractive to young talent: Offering international mobility opportunities increases employer appeal and opens doors to new partnerships.
  • Create a network of best practices: By sharing expertise in outgoing and incoming mobility, employers can better align training with economic realities and local employment needs.

Join the Movement

  • Showcase companies committed to apprentice mobility, particularly those utilizing the full potential of the Maillard law, including provision agreements.
  • Support employers in integrating international mobility into their apprenticeship strategies through stronger partnerships with training centers.
  • Build a dynamic business ecosystem where apprentice mobility is a strategic tool for transformation and growth.
  • Encourage innovation by working alongside EAM’s regional partners to develop and implement long-term mobility solutions.

By joining forces, we can transform apprentice mobility into a competitive advantage for businesses and a stepping stone for Europe’s future workforce.
